Jean Paul Favand has been selected to present a work at the Laval Virtual from April 4 to 8, 2018. A major exhibition in the field of virtual reality and augmented reality, for the first time in its twenty years, the Laval Virtual is having an artistic exhibition in the Art & VR Gallery on the topic or Real Matter / Virtual Matter.
The Elf has been chosen from among many nominations and will represent Jean Paul Favand’s work in mixing the real and the virtual as well as ancient and contemporary technologies to reveal natural objects.
This work is an incarnation of his innovative approach. Jean Paul Favand plays on the perception and interpretation of objects. On this piece of wood from the Landes, he saw the face of an elf, and reality was shifted further with video projections. It reveals this face to challenge the viewer’s perspective and to blur the line between augmented reality and virtual reality. The video follows the veins of the wood as they become expression wrinkles. For the artist, the most difficult part of this technique is to limit themselves to revealing the essence of the wood without transforming it.
