Magic Mirror

« A warm and shimmering setting » Jean Paul Favand

This circular ballroom from the 1920s, entirely made of mahogany wood, is an authentic testimony of amusement heritage. Its name was inspired by the innumerable bevelled mirrors found inside.

The 12 loges laid around the central part of the Magic Mirror recreate an intimate and muted atmosphere, making it a warm and friendly place

It is an excellent option for small-scale events, as it will fill your guests with wonder by transporting them into a Belle Epoque show hall. It is an ideal choice for product launches, press conferences or meetings. It can also be the setting for an exclusive dinner.

  • Japanese billiards

Despite their name, Japanese billiards do not come from the Far East. They are French games in which points are accumulated by throwing balls into various circles.

  • Dutch spinning top game

This beautifully decorated game of chance was already present in royal courts. It then appeared in clubs and salons. Wishes will come true if you manage to ring the bell.

This venue that arrived in October 2014 is the most recent within the Pavillons de Bercy. Two and a half days were necessary to assemble this antique travelling ballroom and several weeks to set up its decoration. Using mercury-pearled valances, chandeliers and other curiosities form his collection; Jean Paul Favand beautified this “spiegeltent” (mirror tent) by enhancing the interplay of lights and reflections.

The origins of the Magic Mirrors

This piece is one of the only six of its kind that remain in the whole world. It was built in 1924 and entirely made of mahogany wood. Similarly to Salon Carousels that brought the atmosphere of funfairs from town to town, Magic Mirrors brought dance and amusement to villages where entertainments were rare.

This Magic Mirror is a real puzzle, with its structure made up of thousands of wood pieces and several hundred bevelled mirrors.

Optical effects

Ten different kinds of glass reflect daylight. The lighting, in addition to mercury pearls decorated valances – restored in our workshops by a conservator trained at the Manufacture des Gobelins. The entire place brings magic and wonder through its optical effects and unique flickers of light.
